NEW ON ALL ABOUT FEED: DATA ON GLOBAL FEED PRODUCTION

Admin2021-01-27T14:42:09+07:00
A new interactive tool on All About Feed shows the feed production per region or country. The tool is based on open data from different sources and can be used as as reference guide for feed production trends around the world over the last ten years.

For strategic decisions, market reports and global insights of the animal feed sector, animal feed professionals are often looking for feed production data on country or regional level. All About Feed has made life easy for you and gathered open data from Fefac (the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation) for Europe and data from the annual Global Feed Survey from animal nutrition company Alltech (for non-EU countries) and combined this in one clear and easy tool. It gives an easy overview, shown in a graph as well as in a table. All data are shown in metric tonnes.

Feed production growing year on year

Fuelled by the increasing global demand for animal protein, the animal feed production is increasing year on year. In 2017, the international feed tonnage exceeded one billion metric tons for the second consecutive year, with a total of 1.07 billion metric tons of feed produced. The global feed industry, valued at 430 billion US dollars, has seen a 13% growth over the past 5 years, equating to an average of 2.49% per annum. This substantial growth is supported by the higher reported consumption of meat, milk and eggs.

You can access the feed production tool here.

Sources of the data

Animal nutrition company Alltech is publishing its Global Feed Survey every year and is one of the most quoted reference on the state of the feed industry. The information becomes more robust and detailed every year. The All About Feed tool has used the non-EU data from Alltech (that is the regions (whole world, Africa, Asia, Middle East, North America, South America). You can find data from 2013 till 2017.

You can access the feed production tool here.

For the European data – from 2009 till 2017 – and the individual European countries, All About Feed uses the data from Fefac (the European Feed Manufacturers’ Federation). At the begin of each year, Fefac publishes the estimated figures for Europe. Later, in June, the breakdown per country is added. The 2017 figures per EU country are therefore not included yet, but will be added in June this year.

Please note that all the figures in the tool should be interpreted as trends in the animal feed market. How to use the tool? Simply select type of feed, region and sub-region and the years / period. You can also select more than one feed type. All About Feed aims to make this tool more complete in the future.

This All About Feed tool is the latest edition of a set of interactive tools that All About Feed and its sister publications Pig Progressand Poultry World have developed. Also take a look at the interactive tool on Pig Progress to show the number of pigs around the world. And did you see the health tool on Poultry World already? This health tool is a nice overview of the main poultry diseases are listed.
